To ensure that every student pays attention to what is being taught and what is being asked by the teacher, ask the question without mentioning anybody’s name. When you mention a name for them to answer the question, likely, the other students will not pay attention. 

Address your question to all the students and not to only the ones who raise their hands. Often, teachers make this mistake which might give a wrong message as favouritism or partiality. Every student should be given equal attention.

  • Question Content 

A teacher should plan what questions to ask in the classroom. Some questions may be spontaneous however, you must plan the pattern and the axis of the questions. As you prepare for the topic to teach in the class, also prepare questions based on the topics for the students. Your question should be meaningful and should add value to the students’ learning process. 

The questions should match the abilities and thinking capabilities of the students. Some students are good at studying while some take time to learn, so the questions should be asked according to their calibre. 

The questions should be simple and easy to understand, and use simple words so that everyone understands them. 

  • Voice and Tone

The voice and tone of the teachers should be crisp and clear. It should be communicated well and teachers should ensure that they ask questions that attract answers.

  • Time to Think

A teacher should give the students the time to think after asking a question. Look around the class and the interest that it has brought in them. Take note of it so that you can improve the next time. However, ensure that the time given should not be too long otherwise, the students are likely to get disinterested.
